Bradford Era — The annual Mount Jewett Swedish Festival draws closer, and committee member Beth Carpenter took her concerns about public safety during the festival to Mount Jewett Borough Council on Monday.
Carpenter said she was “really discouraged” the borough council does not appear to be interested in the lack of police presence in the borough as the festival’s opening date approaches.
She reported to council that vehicles zip through the borough on Main Street at “60 to 70 mph,” and said she could hear compression release engine brakes — generically known as “jake brakes” on trucks — frequently enough to cause her concern. Read more
