Bradford Era — Three council members were sworn into office of the Mount Jewett Borough Council by Mayor Annie Jo Wolfe Tuesday night.

The council members included Tom Geer, John Keesee and Rod Danielson.

Once the meeting was in session and the new council members were sworn in, the council began voting on borough positions. Bradford Era — The Mount Jewett Fire Department will be receiving free firefighting equipment from the US Forest Service thanks to the completion of McKean County’s Community Wildfire Protection Plan.

The plan is used to identify areas at risk for wildland fire in McKean County as well as offer recommendations for vegetation thinning treatments and other mitigation actions homeowners can take to reduce wildfire risk. Read More

Bradford Era — Children of all ages dressed as ghost, ghouls, clowns and favorite characters walked Main Street in Mount Jewett Tuesday night in the Halloween parade.

The parade began at 5 p.m. at the Hamlin Bank and ended at the Mount Jewett Volunteer Fire Department where the Mount Jewett Rotary held a costume judging contest.

Bradford Era — The Mount Jewett Swedish Festival at St. Matthew’s was held this past weekend, and according to Beth Carpenter, event chair, it was another successful event.

“A lot of people had fun. I think we may have had more people than in previous years,” she said.

Carpenter estimated that more than 4,000 people were in attendance of the festival over the entire weekend. Read More

Bradford Era — The Mount Jewett Swedish Festival kicked off Friday night with Master of Ceremonies Tom Geer welcoming those in attendance to the Saint Matthew’s Lutheran Church on Main Street.

Bradford Era — Members of the Swedish Festival Committee met Monday night for the last time before the Swedish Festival slated to begin Friday.

The opening ceremony will be held at St. Matthew’s Church at 6 p.m. with the crowning of the Swedish Festival Royalty, including teen queen. Candidates are Shakira Yoder and Makieya McGuire. Yoder, 12, is the daughter of Christopher and April Yoder of Mount Jewett and will be entering the 7th grade this year. McGuire, 13, is the daughter of Jay and Shelley McGuire of Mount Jewett and will be entering 8th grade. Read More

Bradford Era — Mount Jewett residents, Chuck and Ona Paar addressed the borough council during Monday night’s meeting seeking support for a “Hometown Hero” committee they wanted to put together with the goal of raise memorial banners for service men and women of the area.

Paar stated, “I’m not a military veteran, but like most of you here, I have connections to someone who either is or has been in the military. My dad served in the U.S. Army during World War II, my brother served in the Army from 65’ to 68’ and spent nearly two years in Korea.”

“In driving around,” Paar went on, “a lot of area, I’ve noticed some towns that have gone and put Hometown Hero (banners) up.” Read more

Early Spring Cleaning? Late winter is a great time to clean those corners of your house and dispose of unwanted paint, cleaning supplies, old medications, and other unwanted items.

Unwanted medications can now be dropped off at local police stations including Bradford City, Foster Township,

Old medications, prescription or other, should not be thrown in the garbage or flushed down the toilet. The drug residue can pollute groundwater and travel into streams. Drug residue has shown up in several fish species in parts of Pennsylvania.

Proper disposal of medications is also one important step in preventing abuse and the possibility of drugs falling into the wrong hands.

Household hazardous waste includes a large variety of materials that cannot be disposed of in garbage collections. Unwanted paint, paint remover, chemicals, cleaning supplies, oil, pool chemicals, pesticides, and others can be disposed of at the upcoming collection on April 1^st at the McKean County Fairgrounds.

Electronics, batteries, and light bulbs can also be disposed of at this event. There is a small cost per pound which varies by item or material. You must pre-register at   or by calling
