Bradford Era — Mount Jewett Borough Council president Chuck Paar, who was defeated in the November general election earlier this month, said he would “not go out a lame duck,” and is living up to that claim.
In a prepared statement prior to the vote to advertise the borough’s 2016 budget, Paar called borough council on the carpet on what he called an “egregious act of omission” after the finance committee submitted a budget with no funding for the borough police department.
In January, borough council drew up new guidelines for the borough police department, which included a limit of 39 hours per week for any officer, including then-police chief Steve Hale. At least two part-time officers would work 50 hours per week, and their main duties were established to be “weekday mornings while pedestrian and vehicular traffic is at its peak” and mid-to-late evening to curb vandalism.
