Dogs Wake, Alert Mount Jewett Family in House Fire

Bradford Era — Two dogs helped save the lives of a mother and her young daughters by waking them up and alerting them to a fire that had erupted in the living room some time after 9 p.m. Thursday. The fire destroyed their two-story home at 44 East Main St., Mount Jewett.

Mount Jewett Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the blaze around 9:30 p.m., when they arrived to find the woman and her girls had already escaped the burning house, according to Chief Dan Gustafson. Kane-based state police identified the woman as Sarah Avenali.   Read More
